How does Richard approach his work?
My approach is collaborative, human, and grounded in evidence. I draw on decades of psychological practice across sport, military, and emergency service contexts, together with extensive experience in teaching and research leadership, to create a process that’s both rigorous and personal. Sessions are conversational and practical — built around what’s actually happening in your world: deeply informed by science, but not constrained by any one model.
Rather than following a fixed framework, I aim to align the way we work with your specific situation and needs: “These types of challenges have these types of attributes, which call for these types of strategies.” I integrate research-based approaches spanning cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, schema-based work, and performance psychology, alongside contemporary neuroscience. What matters most is what works for you — the principles, practices, and insights that create genuine and sustainable change.
If you think we might be a good fit, I’d welcome the chance to work together.

Consultation and Coaching
If you’re seeking expert input from a world-leading researcher and applied practitioner in sport, performance, and exercise psychology, consultation or coaching may be the right fit. I work with individuals, teams, leaders, and organisations to improve performance, decision-making, resilience, and culture.
This is typically project-based or organisational work, and often tax-deductible. Recent examples include consultation for the Defence Science and Technology Group, advisory work for the Australian Sports Commission, contributing to national mental health-in-sport guidelines, and design input on Gatorade’s “Fuel Tomorrow” campaign..

Workshops and Speaking Engagements
I design and deliver workshops on core mental skills, performance mindset, resilience, burnout prevention, and mental health in teams. I’ve given keynote talks, contributed to campaigns such as Gatorade’s Fuel Tomorrow, and regularly speak to organisations and sporting bodies.
Whether you’re looking to develop psychologically safe cultures, sharpen performance, or support wellbeing in your team, I create workshops tailored to your needs.

Personalised Data Science
Data from wearables like Apple Watch, Whoop, Oura, or Fitbit can be overwhelming or misleading. With a background in psychological science and a recent postgraduate degree in Data Science, I help you make sense of your physiological data so it becomes useful and actionable, not confusing.
If you can download your data and have specific questions you’d like answered — about stress, recovery, training load, performance, or wellbeing — I offer personalised data interpretation tailored to your goals.
Estimates provided once the data can be accessed and processed
“The most meaningful progress I see isn’t in big breakthroughs, but in the quiet confidence that grows when people start to trust their own judgment again..”
